Soil Surveys

The USDA Ventura County Soil Survey includes soil maps and a description of soil types and capabilities.


Technical Assistance

The technical expertise and field experience of NRCS conservation specialists can be accessed by the VCRCD to assist landowners in solving their natural and agricultural resource challenges.

Ventura County landowners experiencing difficulty with soil, drainage or related problems may obtain technical assistance with:

  • Controlling erosion and reducing sedimentation;
  • Water conservation;
  • Preventing flood damage in upstream areas;
  • Minimizing the risk of fire by promoting fire zone planning;
  • Rangeland conservation;
  • Wetlands and habitat restoration;
  • Selecting plant varieties, seeding methods and rates, and solving problems related to the management of cropland, pasture, woodland, wildlife habitat and other land;
  • Soil use potentials and limitations;
  • And other conservation projects.

Financial Assistance

Through partnerships with other agencies, cost-sharing and grant programs are available on a limited basis to qualifying applicants. These programs are available to growers, farmers, ranchers and other agricultural professionals, as well as sport or agricultural clubs, government agencies and landowners. These grants include:

Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). A Federal grant program offering financial, educational, and technical help to farmers and ranchers to install or implement structural, vegetative, and management practices that address their natural resource concerns, such as soil erosion, water quality and quantity, wildlife habitat, wetlands, and forest and grazing lands.

Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP). A Federal cost-sharing program providing financial incentives to develop or rehabilitate habitat for fish and wildlife on private lands.
